The three-row all-terrain vehicle was upgraded in accordance with the model of TLX sedan.
Following the series of teasers of the new MDX company Acura has completely declassified the crossover of the fourth generation. The car is officially called the prototype, but marketable copies will appear at dealers in the U.S. early next year, so it is unlikely they will differ significantly from today's debutant.
Having moved to a fresh platform, the Acura MDX became longer, wider and lower. Specific figures do not yet call: mentioned only the increase in wheelbase by almost 3 inches (7.62 cm). Similar to the new TLX sedan, the all-terrain vehicle for the first time has a double wishbone front suspension, which will provide a particularly driving character to its Type S sports version. Many other technologies, design elements and equipment have been borrowed from the four-door passenger car.
The prototype was shown in Liquid Carbon and Performance Red colors with 21-inch rims. Key features of the exterior are extended hood, new version of Diamond Pentagon radiator grille and pronounced waist line, visually combining JewelEye headlights with Chicane rear lights. The running lights, also called Chicane, are inspired by the Acura ARX-05 racing lights.
Finished with open pores, aluminum and several types of leather, the cabin is more spacious in all three rows. The sports front seats are electrically adjustable in 16 directions and have a massage function with nine modes of operation. The front panel reminds everyone of the same TLX, but the MDX instruments are fully digital, 12.3 inches. There is a touchpad under the central multimedia touchscreen of the same size on the driver's side.
Among other things, the all-terrain vehicle received the most advanced audio system in the history of Acura - 22-channel Els Studio with 25 speakers for more than 1000 watts. It was tuned by Elliot Shiner, music producer and sound engineer, the owner of eight Grammys.
The architecture of the fourth MDX in "Akura" is described as completely new, designed specifically for all-terrain vehicles. Future customers are promised: the toughest body of all SUV models of the brand, improved handling, comfort and noise insulation. And also - powerful Brembo brakes and additional possibilities for personalization of driving settings.
For the safety of passengers and pedestrians is responsible for an expanded complex AcuraWatch, which includes improved systems of lane hold and assistance in traffic in traffic jams, a new assistant to prevent collisions at low speeds and already debuted on the TLX advanced front passenger airbag, designed with additional scenarios of frontal impact.
The basic Acura MDX will receive a 3.5-liter V6, the characteristics of which are not yet specified. The "hot" MDX Type S (coming on sale six months later) promised a 3.5-liter "turbo six" for 360 hp and 480 Nm from the TLX Type S. Both engines are combined only with a 10 speed automatic transmission and a proprietary Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) with separate rear wheel clutches.
