Japanese hot hatch was in such a rush of demand in Australia. Two weeks ago, the car manufacturer said that the first thousand cars goes to the local coast.
All these cars got the starting price of 39 950 Australian dollars ($28,700). This is 14 thousand less than the recommended retail price. So it is not surprising that the first "loaded" Yaris found owners in less than a week. Toyota's local division decided to reduce the price of the new product at the start of sales to generate interest in the GR Performance brand in the Australian market.
The plan was successful: instead of 12-18 months, it took only six days to sell 1,000 cars. Moreover, 560 copies were bought out in the first 24 hours. How many orders were placed by private buyers, and how many dealers, are not reported.
The carmaker himself admitted that he was surprised by such an increased interest in the first Toyota sports car in more than 20 years. Thus, in a conversation with Car Advice, the president of sales and marketing of Toyota Australia Sean Hanley noted that the brand intentionally sought to make GR Yaris available to sports car fans.
At the same time, he noted that with the new price GR Yaris still has a significant price advantage over cars with similar characteristics.
At the same time, their cost exceeds 50 000 Australian dollars. But it is impossible to place a pre-order for a limited special series of GR Yaris Rallye yet. The circulation of such hatchback will be limited to only 250 units. The limited edition will appear next year.
